Event Description

The 13th IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems (PEDS 2019) will be held in Toulouse, France on 9 – 12 July 2019. The conference is a biennial event and is recognized as one of the major series of conferences in power electronics and drive systems. PEDS 2019 continues to retain its tradition of high quality conference and will open up an opportunity for academics and industrial professionals worldwide to exchange their knowledge of the state-of-the-art power electronics and drive technologies and applications. The 4-day programme will feature tutorials, industry talks and technical paper presentations. Papers presented in conference will be submitted to the IEEEXplore Digital Library and indexed by EI Compendex.

Content: Multicell converters have been introduced more than 30 years ago, and they have gradually been introduced in the real world as commercial products. More recently Wide BandGap semiconductors have brought significant improvements, although cost and reliability are still to be improved. These two innovations give a lot of degrees of freedom to the designer, and the need for dedicated methods and tools is more and more obvious.
In this presentation, we will show the different advantages of using a design environment including new design solutions to:

  • Systematically investigate the different design options:
    • Si vs. SiC
    • 2-Level vs. x-Level topologies
  • Evaluate multicell topologies: series vs. parallel
  • Challenge big modules with smaller devices with reduced voltage/ current ratings,
  • Open the competition between:
    • Si vs. SiC
    • 2-Level vs. x-Level topologies
  • Be able to choose a different solution for each set of specifications.
