Getting Started with PowerForge
In this video tutorial, you will learn how to get started with PowerForge. The best way to see how PowerForge works is to take a real example. We propose to develop the following specifications. We are going to develop a 3-phase converter for solar applications connected to the grid. We will take the example of a 50kW converter, 750V DC, 400 V AC.
We will see that PowerForge allows a lot of flexibility in the exploration phase but in this video, we want to explore the impact of the switching frequency and the switches on the performances of the system.
So we are going to choose these 2 different switches: an IGBT and a MOSFET SiC. Here are the main features and the manufacturing part numbers.
What we will do is for every single switch we will see what are the responses, the performances of the system with a switching frequency of respectively 10, 20 and 30KHz for the IGBT and 30, 40 and 50 for the SiC MOSFET.

Guillaume Fontes – CSO & Co-founder / Power Design Technologies
Guillaume has been an Associate Professor at the Polytechnic National Institute of Toulouse and at the LAPLACE lab since 2006. He studied the electrochemical storage of electric energy and now focuses on methods and tools for the design of power converters. He co-developed a power converter design software prototype in 2013, which is now owned by Power Design Technologies.
Guillaume received the M.Sc from INP-ENSEEIHT in 2001, graduated from the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan in 2003 and received his Ph.D. from the National Polytechnic of Toulouse in 2005.
